Overview
Aletta is a medical device designed for the blood sampling workflow capable of autonomously performing venipuncture.
The Aletta system integrates imaging technology, robotics, and artificial intelligence to perform blood collection tasks. In a clinical trial involving over 1,600 participants in the Netherlands, Aletta achieved a 94.5% first-stick success rate. Aletta uses an ultrasound probe that moves along the arm to map vessel depth and curvature. Built-in safety measures include sensors that track arm movement and needle position. During the blood collection process, Aletta scans the antecubital fossa with near-infrared light to locate veins. Aletta uses Doppler to detect blood flow direction to exclude arteries prior to puncture.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Aletta for blood collection in non-hospitalized adult settings.
